Harmonize Lancaster: A Virtual Music Collaboration

A virtual music festival is coming the week of September 21-26, 2020! The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and Penn Square Music Festival have come together to celebrate our beloved community and bring you a full week of free virtual concerts featuring opera and symphonic favorites. From Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” to Puccini’s La Boheme, you won’t want to miss this spectacular event!

Daily Concerts

Monday, September 21 – 6:00 PM

Join us as we kick off the first night of Harmonize Lancaster: A Virtual Music Collaboration. You won’t want to miss this exciting evening of free performances, featuring 42 musicians of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in an “at home” performance and Penn Square Music Festival’s Blake Friedman.

Program:

  • Welcome introduction with Guy McIntosh (LSO Executive Director) & Scott Drackley (PSMF Founder & Artistic Director)
  • Mozart: Overture to The Marriage of Figaro (Lancaster Symphony Orchestra)
  • Donizetti: “Ah mes amis” from Daughter of the Regiment (Blake Friedman, Tenor)

Tuesday, September 22 – 6:00 PM

Day 2 of Harmonize Lancaster: A Virtual Music Collaboration, will showcase the versatility of our two organization’s incredible talents. Join us as we feature Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and highlights from the operas Pagliacci and Susannah.

  • Bizet: “Pearl Fishers Duet” (John Kun Park, Tenor & Anthony Whitson Martini, Baritone)
  • Leoncavallo: “Vesti la giubba” from Pagliacci (Peter Scott Drackley, Tenor)
  • Floyd: “Ain’t It a Pretty Night” from Susannah (Denisha Ballew, Soprano)
  • Queen: “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Lancaster Symphony Orchestra)

Wednesday, September 23 – 6:00 PM

The third night of Harmonize Lancaster will feature some of the great opera and chamber works of Puccini, Saint-Saëns & Stravinsky. Join us live at 6:00 PM or on your own time for this exciting program.

Program:

  • Puccini: “O soave fanciulla” from La Boheme (Denisha Ballew, Soprano & Terrence Chin-Loy, Tenor)
  • Stravinsky: L’historie du Soldat (A Soldier’s Tale), 1st Mvt. (Lancaster Symphony Orchestra)
  • Saint-Saëns: “Mon coeur” from Samson et Dalila (Kate Jackman, Mezzo Soprano)

Thursday, September 24 – 6:00 PM

Brahms & Puccini will take the show during our fourth night of free virtual concerts. Featuring a trio of LSO musicians and PSMF’s Hannah Brammer (Soprano), you won’t want to miss this exhilarating program.

  • Brahms: Horn Trio in E-flat Major, 4th Mvt. (Lancaster Symphony Orchestra)
  • Puccini: “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta” from La Rondine (Hannah Brammer, Soprano)

Friday, September 25 – 6:00 PM

Join us for the fifth night of Harmonize Lancaster: A Virtual Music Collaboration. You won’t want to miss hearing the incredible voices of the PSMF join for Verdi’s Quartet from Rigoletto.

  • Nielsen: “Serenata in vano” (Lancaster Symphony Orchestra)
  • Verdi: Quartet from Rigoletto (Teresa Castillo, Soprano; Kate Jackman, Mezzo Soprano; Terrence Chin-Loy, Tenor; Andrew Wannigman, Baritone)

Saturday, September 26 – 6:00 PM

To close our week of free virtual concerts, we invite you to join us for a special live performance of Beethoven’s Septet for Winds & Strings by principal members of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. We couldn’t think of a better way to end a week of virtual music than with a live performance!
